"The journey of a thousand miles" Combined Design Team creation for Maja Design and The Dusty Attic

Hello friends. I am finally back here today to share a new project with you. 

This I have titled "The journey of a thousand miles".

Just when I think I have run out of photos I find yet another file hiding away deep amongst my hardrives. The time I spend finding the right photo however, could have been well spent on creating the layout. Back when my children were young we use to visit our local creek, The Grosvenor. It wasn't that it was filled with yabbies (which is why we went), for me it was the memories that we created there. And I do remember this day quite well, because we actually caught some, and of course put them straight back. 

So my project for today was always going to be a little grungy. I used last month's Dusty Attic Moodboard for my inspiration. Sometimes using a mooboard helps me immensely and I often go back to my older favourite moodboards to give me that inspiration.

I have used a combination of Maja Designs papers to start off my background. Some were torn and some distressed quite heavily. 

So because it showcases my son, I decided to create with the blue and brown tones with additional highlights of grey and black. I started out by tearing Miles Apart's "Stay Home". It was the base of this that was torn. I wanted to keep those cute balloons to complete the scene. To the base of this I added in an older piece but a huge favourite for me from the Autumn Basics collection, No.XXI. I adhered these two together and then added over some textures using the Brick stencil from Dusty Attic.

 Over the stenciled texture I coloured in the edges of the bricks using Distress Inks in the colours of Walnut Stain and Black Soot. I also did a little random stamping using a numbers stamp and Archival Ink in the colour of Watering Can. Once this was dried I then added in some 49andMarket rub-ons in a navy colour to match my papers and photo.

My photo's edges were sanded and behind my photo I built dimension by adding in layers of distressed randomly cut papers from my leftover Maja Design selection.

To create the dimension I added old chipboard outers in between my paper layers. 

Now for the chipboards. I had this fishing net pack that I have totally loved for so long and I felt it just fit perfectly with my photo. I dressed it in Walnut Stain Distress ink very randomly and then over the top of this I added in some Viva Decor Inka Gold. I did the same with the Circle Chain Set as well.

For my larger chipboard frame I have used the piece Floral Frame Set #2 (the large frame was used). This was primed with clear gesso firstly and then I added in a hit miss dressing of relief paper paste. Over this I added in a little Distress Ink in Walnut Stain. This colours the paper paste with a vintage cream colouring perfectly. I then cut the piece in half and placed it over itself layering up between it using some handmade acetate leaves.

I used a quote from the Quoted Sentiments pack #4. I coloured it with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and Relief Paper and Viva Decor Inka Gold to make the engraved writing pop. I then cut it in half and laid it at the base of my project.

To finish my project I added in some fussy cut hot air balloons from my remaining paper. I added in a few florals from 49andMarket along with some art stones and miscellaneous ephemera pieces.

"Merry Christmas" Maja Design Project - Nov/ Dec Moodboard Inspiration

Hello and welcome Maja Design friends. Tina Ollett with you today to share a moodboard inspired creation. As you may already be aware,  Maja Design's moodboard challenge is now up. Here is a glimpse for those who have not as yet seen it. Absolutely stunning!! A big thankyou to Marie Janson for all of her creativity putting these together every month.

And this is my take on the gorgeous moodboard using the new release collection of Holiday in the Alps.

I have titled this layout "Merry Christmas". I hunted for a photo fit for this project for a long time. I had to dig very deep and then come across this. I cannot ever remember seeing this photo amongst my pics but there it was. A photo of all 3 of my beautiful children caught in the moment of opening gifts on Christmas morning. So many beautiful memories are bought about by this photo. Isn't it a beautiful thing that as scrapbookers we can relive the moment when creating.

Anyway more about the project. I have as previously mentioned used the new release designed by the very talented Marie Janson.... "Holiday in the Alps". She has created an absolutely amazing collection. I am not huge on Christmas but this collection just rocked my world. I can see myself doing lots more in the coming weeks. Below are the papers I have used.

I used the striped paper "Snowmen" as my background pieces and tore the blue sheet Snowflakes to sit through the middle of the project and the remaining pieces were made as photo matting for my two photos. I also decided a little bit later to add in some brown. So I added in the patterned paper "A New Year".

On my background I added in some texture paste through Dusty Attic's Starry Night stencil and then sprinkled over Sparkling Dust from Dress My Craft.

I have framed my photos using some gorgeous ornate frame chipboards from Dusty Attic. These were dressed in acrylic paints and inks. I also added in a couple of the Swirly frames and cut them into several pieces. They were dressed in Liquid Pearls and sprinkled over with Sparkling Dust.

I found some gorgeous silver branches whilst out shopping this week which fit perfectly for this project. I didn't even have to colour them. Just cut and adhered.

I have also added in some gorgeous little pinecones. These were spritzed in an irridescent clear spray and dusted with Sparkling Dust.

"IV" Maja Design / Dusty Attic/ DT Creation

Hello crafty friends.

 Well today I have quite a post for you, because it is jammed pack full of goodness from each DT team I am currently on. I am so very blessed to be on so many of these wonderful teams and their products really must be used on a daily event for me!!

 And for my project I have again used a photo from our wedding day, but this time around it is with my wonderful husband and our two eldest. As many of you well know, photographing children is never easy and I think these photos show exactly that. But I think it also makes them more natural and more real ! Because that is who we really are right !

I decided to use two photos from the photo shoot, both where my son was obviously not concentrating on the camera. Just too cute I reckon !! 

I have used the papers from Maja Designs "Celebration" collection called "Anniversary", a totally stunning piece I really couldn't go past using this, but I decided to also use the the bs of this piece as well as it is equally gorgeous. I tore my piece of Anniversary in half, turned the bottom over to make one page and then went to work embellishing my page.

I wanted to keep my layout stylish and a little elegant. And since our photos were taken out in the garden I also decided to add some garden elements to my layout. For example the Dusty Attic chipboard birdbath and old shabby window shutters and of course lots and lots of beautiful 49andMarket florals.

Above you can see the Dusty Attic chipboards that I used and the textures and colours which I have dressed my embellishments in. I wanted to keep the colours quite neutral and soft.

 I also cut a clock from the Maja Designs Vintage Summer collection and added it to my layout atop of the smaller Dusty Attic Lacey Heart photo frame and I added the Roman Numerals "IV" for the 4 of us. Thought it was quite fitting for my layout.

And to keep with the elegance of the page I have coloured some of my chipboards and flowers and leaves with a gold in the colour of Miner Miner from Shimmerz Paints. It is a stunning way to highlight pieces on a layout. I have also added in some cutouts of the flowers from a second piece of Maja Designs "Anniversary" and tucked them in and around the flowers clusters. 

You can never have too many flowers I think.

   

So because I decided to go with earthy colours I have kept my chipboards quite simple. The Baroque Large Frame was used along with the corner Baroques to create a border line working diagonally up my layout.

And from another view !! Love the b side of this totally gorgeous paper!!

Above you can see that I have coloured around my clusters with the shimmery beautiful Inklingz...... love the creaminess of these colours ( Miner Miner and Twinkle Twinkle) perfect way to keep with the elegance of a layout is to use some shimmer. You can find these colours

The window shutters were dressed to create a worn shabby look.

And above here you can see the Lacey Heart Frames were dressed in the Inklingz Miner Miner. Absolutely stunning results on chipboards. Really highlights to photos and makes them pop.

The birdbath as you see above was used in my left hand cluster wrapped up with the vines and sitting atop of the window shutters. I love my birdbaths they are just adorable!

And my last piece of yummy Dusty was the Roman Number IV. I have used this for the title to my project being that there are 4 of us in the photo. This is fast becoming another favourite chipboard piece for me. They are just big enough to highlight and area of a cluster.

And then there were the flowers.........

Well I think you will agree that I tend to love my flowers as much as I do my chipboard. They just go hand in hand. And so I used a few or okay a lot of 49andMarkets gorgeous blooms from a few different collections. I stayed with the earthy colours and added in some leaves, vines and also some fussy cut elements from the Celebration collection.
