"Love is Kind" - The Scrapbook Store April Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well. Only one day left and we have our wonderful Easter holiday break. We here are at the Ollett residence, are very happy to see them come around so quickly. The kids, hubby and I are wanting to do a whole deal of nothing over the next 10 days.
Well, we will see how that pans out! I'll keep you posted.

Today I have my first Design Team project for The Scrapbook Store for April. This is my take on the Sketch Challenge for April. If you find you are needing a challenge, this is an excellent way to take your scrapping to another level. I love using the sketch and turning it around as I have done here. I sometimes look at elements on the page and swap them with chipboards or flowers or just paper! The world is your oyster really.
So below you will find the sketch designed by the very lovely and talented Marelize Frisby.

I have titled this one "Love is Kind".
My eldest daughter Ashlea is about to celebrate her 14th birthday, so I thought I would create her a little something to reflect on. Her journey! Hope she likes it!

So for this creation I have used Blue Fern Studios - "Love Story" Collection. Except this time I have not used the reds and kept the colour combination very simple. I wanted it to be a little shabby so I have used lots of White Crackle Paint and simple inking techniques. The back ground page and corrugated board have all been painted with a watered down solution of gesso to mute the darkness and make the papers and board pop a little more.

I have changed up the cherry blossoms by inking and painting them. The chipboard watering can is just delectable. I simply gessoed this then inked and gave it a small covering of Crackle Paint. Once dry I then inked it again.

Here you can see the Blue Fern Studios Page Chain Chipboards. They too are just divine. I have arranged these to make it look as if Ashlea is being cradled amongst the chain and flower clusters. I have then tied each side with some very fine seam binding into a bow either side.

Once again all the flowers have been dusted down with a little gesso.

I have used some really cute and very little cabichons here. Simply glued them on to some spare patterned paper with a little clear drying Scotch glue and let them dry. Cut them out and sanded the edges and adhered them to the layout in a couple of clusters.

And another view.

I hope you have enjoyed your visit here. And remember if you would like the materials list for this project keep scrolling down to the bottom.
I would like to wish you and your families a safe and most happy Easter break.
See you back here again soon.

Happy Scrapping

Hello once again.

Some of you may have noticed that I have been a little MIA of late. Life in our household has become extremely busy with renovating our home, and keeping up with all the kids extra curricular activities. It leaves very little time to do the things that the heart yearns for.
But today, regardless of the ever increasing messiness of our home, I decided enough was enough and today was me day! So I created this for my Design Team duties for The Scrapbook Store.
Suzanne has very kindly sent me the beautiful Blue Fern Studios "Love Notes" collection.
I was more than just a little excited when I found out I was receiving this. Along with the patterned papers I also received some gorgeous Blue Fern chipboards which are just spectacular.

I have called this one "Forever".

I have used my most favourite photo of my husband and I taken some years back ( actually a lot of years ago), not long after the birth of our first child. Still to this day it is my fave.

I have adorned these papers firstly with a little random stamping using some of my favourite postal stamps. And then I have tea-stained quite a large section of cheesecloth. With it I draped it into a v shape to sit centrally on my layout from the left all the way to the right. I cut a little more to even out the page and added it to the top left.

I have dressed the Circle Vine chipboard with Distress Crackle Paint and wiped it over with a bit of Black Soot distress ink once it was dry. The Shabby Bricks chipboards were randomly inked with Black Soot and then I wiped them over with a little Crackle Accents.
I have coloured my Green Tara Azaleas with some Distress inks (Aged Mahogany and  Fired Brick). The remaining flowers and leaves were all dusted with gesso.

All the materials used for "Forever" are listed below and available from The Scrapbook Store.

Well that all from me today. I hope you have a most fabulous weekend.

Until then happy scrapping.

Workshop Wonders Canvas

Hi and welcome back!
Over the weekend I participated in a teaching retreat called the Workshop Wonders, organised by the fabulous Alison Bevis. What an event!!! Soooooo much fun was had.
So today I am revealing the small canvas my classes created.

Each participant received a kit full of goodies sponsored by The Scrapbook Store, Memory Maze and
Arnold's Scrapbooking and Craft. Thank you to each of the sponsors. Your generosity was greatly appreciated.

My projects usually start with a photo, but for this one I used a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson which reads:

Every Artist
was first an amateur........

From this I built the base canvas by scraping modelling paste over a canvas and making textures with a large paddle pop stick. Really neat technique and it also gives a great variance of textures. I let this dry naturally and coated the remaining chipboard pieces with gesso and some with modelling paste using the same technique with the paddle pop stick.

Both of the Vintage Flourishes have been embossed with silver embossing powder and dry brushed with a little gesso. The cheesecloth was coloured using Distress Inks Dusty Concord and Peacock Feathers and water. You  can also see here on the base chipboard the texture created using a little Liquid Pearls to draw in the flourishes. Once the liquid pearls dried I gave it another coat of gesso and coloured it with the coordinating Distress Inks. Of course you can use any colours you like. Some of the ladies from class opted to use different colours and they turned out amazing!!!

The colouring of the flowers was also done using the same distress ink colours. The stamens coloured with gesso and then the whole flower was treated with a little of Ranger's Star Dust Stickles.

Well I hope that if you missed this class on Sunday that this may help you out to create one of your own. If you have any questions just leave a message below and I am only too happy to help you out.

If you keep scrolling below you will find a list of materials used.

Thanks for looking and until next time.

"Journey" to the 12 Apostles

A warm welcome to you. I hope wherever you live in the world that you are happy and well.
Today I have a Fabscraps Design Team share, using the new collection "Love 2 Travel".
I was so very excited when I opened my goodie box from Fabscraps to find this collection, not only for the travel aspect, but to find there were patterned papers for us Aussies!!!! And the background piece I have used for this is perfectly gorgeous.

The photo I have used for this layout, was one taken very recently on a family trip made to the 12 Apostles. This was something that I will never forget. Something that I will probably never see again as the Ocean Road trip was absolutely spectacular, but not one for those who get a little car sick on those winding roads. Once we were out of the car and seeing this view it was all forgotten.

I have titled this creation "Journey to the 12 Apostles" . I hope you like it!

I started off this layout by backing the Australia patterned paper with some Kraft cardstock and used some inking to highlight the edges.

I have used a mix of flowers from my stash in differing colours to co-ordinate with the papers.

The Fabscraps chipboard word "Journey was inked and inked some more. I then applied some Crackle Accents to highlight the word so it stood out from the layout.

Some layers of torn papers which have all been inked

I have used a Sizzix die to cut leaves/ branches for my flower cluster. These have been sprayed with Glimmermist and then inked randomly. Some were broken up into smaller pieces.

Here you can see the layers of torn papers. I added in a little Corrugated board to highlight areas of the page.

And of course a little cheesecloth to finish off the layout.

I hope you have enjoyed your visit here today. Please keep scrolling for the Materials List.

Thanks for visiting and have a very happy day!

"Little Things" - The Scrapbook Store March Challenge

Hello and welcome back. I really can't believe it is March already. Time seems to be escaping on me. So this is a little late in posting but better late than never as they say.
If you are looking for a challenge this month pop over to The Scrapbook Store.
You will find below this awesome sketch created for the March challenge by Marelize Frisby.

I have titled this "Little Things".

My starting point for a layout always starts with the photo. And this was not my chosen photo. But it wasn't until I was about to reprint a photo that I came across this one. I love this photo and had entirely forgotten all about it. I love the fact that Cydne was so caught up in filling her bucket with sand that she was still wearing her goggles all fogged up and full of water was what I remember.

So everything that I had envisaged creating was turned on its head and I had to start again from scratch. I pulled together a lot of differing papers to match the colours in Cydne's clothes. I used an older range of Carta Bella called "Devoted" that I have used on a number of occasions.

I firstly made a mixed media background with a stencil and glimmermists. And then I did a some layering with cut, distressed and torn papers.

I have used a lot of chippies from different companies ( Fabscraps, Dusty Attic and  Blue Fern).

I have tucked a little bottle in among the flower cluster along with some cheesecloth and shells and then dry  brushed everything with a little gesso.

And another view.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I so hope you have liked this creation made for The Scrapbook Store's March Challenge Sketch.
Pop on over if you feel like giving it a go!
